What if the train is suspended: plan B via Hidroeléctrica
Sometimes the Machu Picchu train is cancelled: strikes, landslides on the tracks or maintenance work. When that happens, the route via Hidroeléctrica is usually the best alternative so you don’t lose your visit.
Why the train gets suspended
- Strikes: They block the tracks or stations.
- Landslides: Especially in the rainy season.
- Maintenance: Scheduled closures of the line.
Plan B: the bus to Hidroeléctrica
If the train between Ollantaytambo and Aguas Calientes is not running, you can go by road to Hidroeléctrica and walk about 10 km to Aguas Calientes. We leave Cusco at 5:55 AM and arrive at Hidroeléctrica at 1:40 PM. If you are already in Ollantaytambo, we leave from there at 8:40 AM. See the full Cusco – Hidroeléctrica bus schedule.
